The 2017 State Convention of the Socialist Party of Michigan will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, from 11 am to 6 pm, in the Community Room of the Everybody Reads bookstore in Lansing. Additionally, we will be connecting the Convention with an online Zoom video conference so as to enable members who cannot physically make it to Lansing to attend and participate remotely.

In order to facilitate cohesion with the video conference; members attending in
person are encouraged to bring a laptop or web-connectable mobile device if conveniently available. However, having such an individually connected device is by no means essential. Free Wi-Fi network access will be available at the Convention, as well as mobile hotspots if needed.

The Zoom video conference for the convention can be accessed from any Web-accessible computer or Android/Apple mobile device simply by entering the above-listed Zoom conference URL in your Web browser, or entering the following Meeting ID into the Zoom client or app 698-212-794. In the event that you do not have a functioning microphone or speakers on your computer/device, you can supplement your video connection with audio from any phone by dialing (408) 638-0968 and entering the above-noted Meeting ID when prompted.

The State Convention is the highest ranking meeting body of the Socialist Party of Michigan and is empowered to amend the SPMI State Bylaws and State Platform, adopt, amend, and rescind State Convention resolutions, elect the SPMI’s State Executive Committee officers, and elect the SPMI’s delegates to the Socialist Party USA National Convention.

SPMI State Conventions are generally held only once every two years – with the aim of full state party membership participation. All SPMI members from around the state are therefore strongly urged and expected to attend. There is no fee for participating in the Convention, and voting credentials are automatically accorded to all Michigan SPUSA members in good standing. Non-member observers are also welcome to attend.
