The asterisks next to the names of five of the seven listed 2010 SPMI candidates denote that the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office has barred such candidates from being placed on the November ballot, due its refusal to lawfully recognize the Socialist Party’s certified nomination of their candidacies. The SPMI is continuing to pursue litigation over the status of its Michigan ballot qualification, and we still presently maintain a very strong legal basis for ultimately being granted such recognized Michigan ballot status in the coming year as we press further on with our legal challenge.
In spite of the state’s current stance in the meantime, two of the Socialist Party of Michigan’s nominees will still appear on the statewide ballot this November, due to their receipt of a supplementary nomination by Green Party of Michigan, whose continued Michigan ballot qualification has remained state-recognized.
