Socialist Party of Michigan Chartered Locals
Chartered locals of the Socialist Party are constitutionally empowered to represent both the state and national Party in the areas assigned for their jurisdiction, in addition to the chartered local branches themselves. SP Locals hold their own meetings, events, and actions, and exercise control over the admission (or applicable expulsion) of Socialist Party members residing in the area assigned for their jurisdiction, as well as the nomination of SP candidates for public office in any election held within their chartered jurisdictional boundaries.
New SPMI locals can be chartered by the state Party upon the signed application of five SPMI members in good standing, residing in an area where no chartered SP local presently exists, and the election of a Local Executive Committee. A Local Executive Committee must include a Local Chairperson, Local Secretary, and Local Treasurer, and may also include other elected local offices.
